Hit the same spot we had great success with the night before. Caught a smaller 17lber, but then hooked in to this guy who was ripping line and screaming drag. He had a bad attitude and I loved it!!!

I was giving the bite about 10 more minutes before packing up, and right at about 10 minutes my rod bent slightly down. I picked it up and felt the tension then pulled. The fight was about 10 minutes, but well worth it.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Took my nephew to try a new spot that I had heard several good reports on. I had to see this spot for myself. Got to the spot just before 11:00 AM and set up on a point at the mouth of a creek that entered the lake. I used my little hummingbird cast sonar across the creek where it came into the lake. There was a 12 foot scour hole about half way across the creek. I baited up with a piece of cut creek chub on a 2/0 baitkeeper hook with a 3 ounce egg sinker and casted about 2 foot into the head of the hole and caught a 2 pound channel. I did this for the next several hours with the same result. I decided to cast a little deeper in the hole. I set the bait, reached for a drink and turned around to see my rod bent almost completely over. I set the hook and the fight was on. I cranked the drag completely tight, put steady pressure on it for about 30 seconds and started cranking her in. About 5 or so minutes later I got her close enough to shore for my nephew to grab her. She was gut hooked and was not in very good shape or she would have been released, She was full of eggs as you can see from the photo. I wanted to get her home to a decent scale to get an accurate weight. When we got back to the car the DNR officer pulled up to check our licenses. I always seem to get checked. He had a scale and weighed it for me 20# 3.5 ounces.

While out in pursuit of my new PB as guaranteed by Flatheadsteve and Thegavel . We were out fishing one of the bridges. At 1:22 I told myself I'm going home in 10 minutes I went to say my goodbye’s and heard my clicker going. Picked up rod hook was set fight was on fish took about 5 minutes to surface. I tired him out on the surface for a few minutes while Steve made the trek down the bridge to land him in the net. Fish was landed at around 1:40 a.m. After an extensive photo shoot the fish (LARRY) was released………

Fish Tale of the Catch:
The South River is a small river that I used to drive by wondering "why are people fishing in such a tiny river?". It didn't occur to me that there is a huge pool which surpasses 12 feet deep at a spot way out past Milo. I had been working on finding truth in some stories I had heard about the place and made it out to the hole for the 15th time this season. I left some stinkbait further downstream in hopes of attracting fish my way where my smaller rod was rigged up with some crawlers. Smaller fish were in the area so after catching a couple Bullheads I set the rod back to the same spot. The smaller fish stopped trying to steal my worm for a minute and I got a little curious. And then, the bite came. It was enough to bend the rod more than a bullhead but it didn't feel like a large fish when I set the hook. I began reeling closer to the bank and found the the fish finally realized what was happening. All of the banks were the kind of muddy that you don't want to step in for fear of going for a swim and I was missing a fishing buddy with a net. After about a ten minute tug of war with my drag the fish began to grow tired. I found the least muddy spot on the bank and reached down to grab it by the gill. I did and he showed up at 15lb. 6oz. Great night!
