Fish Tale of the Catch:
I was fishing with my friend Steve below a current break on the Kansas River. The river was up and running, and full of debris. My heaviest rod went tap tap a couple of times, so I picked it up. When he tapped again I set the hook, but had no idea what I had hooked into. Steve asked "Do we need the net?" My response "No, it doesn't feel very big". But then it swam the other way. "Well we might need the net" Lol, The rest is history; after a short fight we had landed my personal best catfish and flathead at 76lbs 5oz.

This Flathead took a 9 inch live shad in the middle of a serious thunderstorm. It was caught in one of the deepest holes I know of on the Kansas River. After about a 15 minute fight the fish was landed and CPR'ed.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
My Friend Mike and I decided to go Down to the Kansas River and do a little fishing. We arrived at about 3:30 launched the boat and went to catch bait. Bait came pretty easy and before too long We had plenty of Shad and Goldeye to last the trip. When We get to the fishing spot, and Anchor off at the head of a nice looking hole. We each bait up our circle hooks with 1 shad and 1 Goldeye each and pitch them down into the hole. pretty soon I get a run and reel in a small 3-4 lb channel cat. Not exactly what we're after but at least it chased away the skunk. Shortly after I released My fish, Mike's rod Got a BIG clicker run......He engaged the spool and the fish instantly doubled over the St. Croix Classic Cat rod He was using. After A good battle I netted His catch, a nice Healthy 25 lb Blue cat. Easily His personal best. We CPRed the fish and got back to buisness. At this point the fish seemed to be wanting goldeye, and pretty soon all four rods were Baited up with it. 15- 20 minutes after Mikes fish My Abu 10000's clicker started Screaming. I reach over and engage the spool and This custom Made cat rod of mine doubles over in the rod holder!!!! Amazing MY Big Boy rod is a 50lb line class rod Makes a heavy action Quantam Big cat look whimpy. And this thing is Doubled over!!!!! I grab it out of the holder, and got to feel the power of the fish and then nothing.....only had it hooked for about 20 seconds or so, I knew I missed a HUGE fish. After that the action seemed to die down so We moved upstream and checked a couple other spots and nothing was happening. Well We had to go Back downstream to get to the ramp so We Decided to give That first hole 10-15 more minutes cause We wanted to hit another spot on the way back to the ramp. As were getting Baited back up We are really getting low on Goldeye so I decide to bait My big rod up with This Big shads head. We throw out and almost instantly start getting runs But We miss Three in a row. Right as it got Dark My 10000 on My big rod Started screaming Again. I click over the spool and hook up this time. As soon As I got the rod out of the holder, I knew I had a big Blue on. An Epic Battle insued, We definatly went toe to toe, I'd reel in line She would pull it back out. After Twenty minutes We finaly got it in the Net. Personal Best rod and reel fish a 66 lb Blue cat.CPR

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Fishing with just my 9-year-old son and me in the boat. Anchored in a fast current area just below a dam on the Kansas River near Kansas City, KS. Baited up with a fresh head from a 9" shad and tossed it toward a current seam. After maybe 10 minutes, the rod bent over with line screaming out. Took about 20 minutes to wrestle this monster to the boat, where it became obvious that my net was too small. So I had my son dig out some gloves for me, put the gloves on while fighting the fish and eventually got him alongside the boat and hauled him in. A couple of hasty measurements and a photo on my cell phone and this big girl was back in the water. Weighed on a Coffey Marketing 120 lb digital scale. 51" overall length. Couldn't have done it without my best fishing buddy in the boat!

Fish Tale of the Catch:

The current in the river was really moving. This fish slammed a 12 inch shad head. I have to thank the group of fisherman that use the Kaw Point boat ramp. The day before we held a massive clean up to make the ramp useable, this made it possible for me to land this beauty.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
I hit Osage State Lake Friday night - left the ramp around 5 p.m. The night was really slow for the most part. I had a bunch of little ones stealing my shrimp. I tried everything - bigger hooks, smaller hooks, and trouble hooks could not catch them. I did not have any takers on dip bait either. I had planned on fishing most of the night but at this pace I thought it was going to be an early exit. That was till around 8:45. I was talking to the old man and I saw him make a weird face; that is when I heard it. I looked over and my Catfish Safari Channel Cat pole was bent over almost touching the water. Almost as soon as it hit it, it was gone. I picked up the pole and waited for another hit. That is when it hit again. I set the hook and I knew it was big. I fought it for a good minute and then the line went limp. I reeled in and thought the line had broken. Nope, the trouble hook straightened out on me. That got the blood running. I decided to switch out the hooks for my Team Catfish Trouble hooks. As I was doing that the other pole with shrimp on it went down some. I hooked that one and got it to the boat to find a nice 5.8lb drum. Things were picking up some. I got the other pole back out and not more than 30 minutes later it went down and hard. This time I got it and set the hook. After about 3 minutes of fighting it and keeping him from getting in to structure, he broke the top of the water and I knew I had a new Personal Best on the other end.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
While fishing a local state fishing lake for flathead on Sunday night, I did better on the channel cat. I was satisfied with the 12# I caught at about 9:30, and almost left then. At about 11:45 I had a strike on one pole, then as I was fighting that fish, my other rod shot off the rock I had it resting on. I just happened to catch it as the reel hit the water's edge. I set the hook, and realized THIS fish was MUCH bigger than the one I was already fighting, so I put my foot on the first rod and fought this fish to the bank instead. The other ended up weighing in at about lbs., so I guess you could say I made the right decision. He was caught on a 6.5' Rhino Rod, with am Zebco 808 filled with 20lb mono. The fight lasted about 6 or 7 minutes, but seemed like forever! New personal best channel catfish for me!
