Fish Tale of the Catch:
Lost a big one at this dike about a month earlier,(just came unhooked). Hadn't caught anything all morning so I decieded to try this dike again, sat there for a hour and 15 min with no bites, i was getting ready to leave when one rod started getting a bite(A good flathead bite), i reeled in a 16 lbr, weighed him and put him on a stringer, I turned around just in time to see one of my other rods going down real slow, and just kept going, I lifted it out of the rod holder and imediatly I knew i had a monster,,, well after about 20 min of getting him off the bottom I got him to the top by the boat, I stuck my net under him and the hoop touched his belly and he took off straight into the net,,Whew!!!! I was all by myself, I had to just sit there and regroup for awhile,, fished for another 15 min and then headed for the ramp, there were about 25 people there including a lot of deer hunters(Which I knew)who had all struck out, I told them they should have been fishing instead of hunting. Thats my story and im a stickin to it

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Took Dale Castle (dcastle) out for a trip on the MO river for a story he wanted to do for the Northeast News. We anchored off a wing dam in downtown KC and casted towards the dam. We were fishing for blues using cut bait on the current side of the wing dam. We had just got the lines in the water and sat down when one of the clickers started screaming. I knew it was a nice fish when I picked up the rod, but didn't realize how nice until we finally got him off the bottom. Probably took between 15 and 20 minutes to get him in the boat. I was very surprised to see it was a flathead since we were in some current and using cut bait.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
I was fishing in a Gateway Cats Dollar Tourney with fellow BOC members Ol Grump and Floatrip Willie when one of the rods laid over. The hookset revealed I had a pretty good fish on. At first I thought I had on a real nice blue cat, however when the fish decided to stay under the boat and deep, I assumed it was a flat head. It took perhaps 10 minutes to get the fish boat side, and it is to date my personal best Flathead Catfish. Many thanks to Willie Robinson and Gary Vinyard for sharing in the moment with me and assisting with the pictures. The fish was caught on a Grain loading dock in Saint Louis, Missouri near the Arch. I'm not much of a flathead fisherman, as I concentrate mainly on those big Ol Blue Cats, however I'll take good ol Lady Luck any day.

This big female was dropping eggs as soon as we got her in the boat. We weighed her on a set of Coffey scales and she weighed in at 82lbs. She was still dropping eggs and even checked up a full gar head while we rushed her to a weigh-in. As usual the fish was CPR'ed.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
I finally caught MOBY today. My new PB 81.44# pound blue catfish What a day......
Went to a local tournament with Primitivefrn (JIM) today up on Truman lake. Jim had a bite as soon as we got set up. We knew it was a good fish and finally got it in the boat. Jims fish was a 55.60# POUND blue!!!!!! We no more than had her in the boat and my rod went down hard. We still didnt even have the hooks out of Jims fish yet.

I knew mine was a good fish also. We seen the tail come up and still didnt know for sure how big it really was until Jim finally got the boga grip in its mouth. It took both of us to get it in the boat because we couldnt lift her. Finally we both just started walking backwards and pulled her over the side and she was in the boat. Offical weight was 81.44# POUNDS!!!!!! This was at 7:30 am and we had only been fishing for 30 minutes. We ended up with our 5 fish limit for the trny. and culled a 1/2 dozen others. Needless to say we had big fish and total weight with those two at 137# POUNDS!!!! We didnt even weigh in the other three....

WHAT A DAY!!! Both fish were released to fight again.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
My two sons and I went out on the river about 7 PM. Threw for bait for 2 hours and only caught 1 small gar. We got set up about 10PM and I put out 2 rods with cut gar and one with live bluegill. About 10:30 one of the rods took a hard hit and the fish just kept taking line. I got the rod out of the holder and thought I had snagged on a log for a minute. Then I felt him shake his head and the fight was on. Took about 20 minutes to get him to the boat and it was a fiasco tryin to get him netted when he outweighed both of my kids. We got some pictures and released him unharmed.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
After taking a three year spell of barely fishing due to some things in my life. I just started back catfishing and god blessed me with not only finding this site, meeting new people, but giving me the biggest channel cat I have ever caught. I was talking to some BOC memebers about making a Thursday night trip to my old stomping grounds on the crooked river near Hardin Mo. Originally I was going to fish the banks, but my cousin "who rarely fishes" wanted to go. We ended up taking my uncles 16ft john to the river. We did fairly good that night. We were concentrating on a section of the river that was washed out from the floods of 93. It's like a nice sized lake in the middle of the river. We were fishing in the shallows. Instead of using cut shad sides I decided to try a left over shad head. To tell you the truth we were doing well with cut sides, but I was growing tired of being the one cutting all the bait. LOL So I just grabbed one of the heads and am glad that I did. Maybe two or three minutes after that the clicker went off and never stopped until I set the hook. The fight lasted five to ten minutes and I was yelling excitingly like a little kid. I have always wanted to catch a channel going twenty and have been close a couple of times, but this one fought a little harder. So I knew this could be the one. After the fish was landed and nearly falling out of the boat when I saw the big 20 on the digitals I went into shock. NO CAMERA! and no matter what this fish was going back into the water. My cousins house was only a five minute or so drive from the dock so we hauled back to his house to snap a quick picture with his camera. I put my hand in it's mouth to try to get a good pose with the fish. With no gloves that was a mistake LOL. So the next thing I tried was to cradle the thing and that to was almost a mistake. She would not stop thrashing for anything. So I just threw a stringer on her so I could hold her to get a shot a quick as we can and then haul butt back to the river. We released the fish and she swam off.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
The fish have really been active and on a good feed. I had caught an 8 lb channel a couple of hours before and we were looking for some big blue cats. The fish hit and came to the surface in an instant. It did a lot of thrashing but the fight really began when he came in the boat. This is my biggest channel cat so far and was a great looking fish.
