Fish Tale of the Catch:
Me and my partner had been in the boat for 22 hours of a 30 hour catfish tournament and were set in a long drift when something hit the back left rod. I held it for a minute and never felt anything so I put it back in the rod holder. A couple of minutes later the rod loaded up and I grabbed it and the fight was on. I started hollaring at my partner to wake up and get ready to get this fish cause I could tell he was big and he kept telling me, your just hung up on a stump, didnt take long for him to figure out I wasnt kidding. I was pretty sure it was a flathead by the way he was fighting and he made about three good runs to the bottom before he gave up. He rolled up on his side and my partner popped the lip gripper in his mouth and drug him over the side of the boat and I was speachless at the size of that HAWG. We kept him alive to be weighed and released for a 1st place finish. I have been chasing a 50lber for over three years and I have finally got him. I reckon I will have to go for a 70lber now.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
While the crappie were spawning at Santee, the flatheads were crashing their beds and eating the crappies up. We saw most all the flatheads we caught but it got dark and this bigger than average fish bit a live crappie in standing timber. The water was about 3 to 4 feet deep and dingy from all the flatheads feeding on the crappie. we had to chase him down with the trolling motor cause we were about 100 yards into the standing timber and he wanted the deep water. This fish got a citation from the governor of SC and the trophy five award!

Fish Tale of the Catch:

The sunfishing (for baits) was a bit slow, but I got 15 nice ones. I set up at one of my favorite holes just before dusk for catfish. At 8:15 I got my first bite and it turned out to be a nice 11 pound flathead. I got everything back in order in the boat and settled down again, and it wasn't long before I got another bite. He didn't really crush the bait, but messed with it a little. I waited until the rod bent down a bit, and then picked it up and set the hook. Right off I knew it was a pretty good fish from the weight, but it didn't run much, only taking a few feet of line against the drag. I easily worked the fish to the boat, then the fight began. Once under the boat, that's where he stayed. I was patient and kept the presure on, and when he surfaced I put on a glove and grabbed him by the lower jaw. I took quick length and girth measurements (49" long with 32" girth), took a couple of quick pictures (set the timer on the camera and set in on a bucket in the bow), and then got a weight. After that I held the fish in the water for a minute, before pulling him back and checking the weight one more time. I fished until a bit after midnight and caught no more cats, but still, what a great start for my 2008 flathead season!

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Went fishing this morning to catch some striper bass but had lots of trouble getting bait. No luck with the rock fish but had some frozen perch and striper. Went down river from the dam and set out only 2 cat rods and one striper rod rigged with a float. Got some peck action on the cat rod in the deep water and didn't pay much attention until I saw the tip make a slow turn toward the water. Stucjk the beast good and thought I had a 35-40 pound fish. Got the fish to the boat and he took on a totally different personality. After a couple power dives the behemoth was lying on top the water. Took a lot of back and legs to get this one aboard. I flagged down a striper boat bound for the dam, he graciously snapped off several pics of my new personal best cat--60 pounds, 48.25 inches long.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Had my first trip to Lake Monticello with Chris Simpson, and it was a awesome day. The first hump we sat on for a couple hours with not much sucess, and later moved around 9:50 am, to our second hump. The action started heating up. By 12:50 I had beaten my pb for blues two times. The first was 26 lbs, and the second was 54 lbs. It shocked both of us, we were just about speechless. We took some photos and the fish was released. Thanks Chris!

Fish Tale of the Catch:
My good friend Michael ( catfishrus ) , had invited on to go with him to santee cooper for a couple of nights of fishing. After we caught some white perch to go along with our herring we went to one of Michael's favorite spots to start our drift. It wasn't long before the fish were tearing it up. I looked at one of the rods on my end of the boat and it had a good bend in it. I picked it up and set the hook and after a moment I knew it was a pretty good fish. After we got it in the boat , weighed it , took a couple of pictures, it was released to fight again. We caught several good fish that night, and did even better the next night. They wore me out.......lol.
