Fish Tale of the Catch:
My brother-in-law Earnest and I got to the public boat landing at Dehaven Park on Claytor Lake around 7pm. We launched Earnest Tracker boat and fished for blueguill around the docks and banks until we had filled our minnow bucket with plenty of bait. We then headed to an area were he had caught flat head cats in the 20-30lb range in the past. We had just tied the boat up and finished baiting up our rods and casting them out when the first rod I had cast out started clicking slowly. I had set the clicker and left the button pushed in on my used Quantum trophy reel that I purchased for 5.00 on Ebay. I picked up my rod and as the reel started clicking faster and faster I engaged the reel and set the hook. Unlike any fish I had ever hooked before this monster pulled my arms away from my body and my reel began the scream like crazy. It took me 25 Minuets to actually land this fish because every time he got to were he could see the boat he turned and ran for deep water. when he finally got tired enough for me to get him up to the boat Earnest tried to get him in our net but his head was to large. After two or three tries Earnest reached down and grabbed his lower jaw with his hand and wrestled him into the boat. He was shaking his head side to side and trying to role. When you see the picture try to keep in mind that I am 6' tall and weigh 300lb. This things mouth was so big that you could have set a milk jug down inside of it. This was an experience that I will never forget. My arms and legs were still shaking 30 minutes after he was in the boat. I did receive a citation from the Virginia State Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for catching a trophy sized flat head, and also had the local paper publish a picture of me and the fish in it.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Had chartered out with Captain Hugh earlier in the week. The week had been tough, really windy. This day I picked up the Captain on my boat to fish as friends (If you need a guide, I HIGHLY recommend him) The morning bite was fabulous with a 31, 2 40's, a 50, a 55, and several small ones however after noon we didn't have much luck at all other than some tentative pull downs. At approximately 8:00 pm we marked some fish in a 25 foot hole and set up above it. After 20 minutes or so I commented that I was disappointed those big marks weren't hungry, when this one obliged, took one pull and then started peeling drag. I am from Ohio and let me tell you, I needed a bigger net. This fish only fit in it halfway, but after a long long battle during which I thought my back would give out, I landed this 72lb 8 oz beauty! It measured 47 inches long with a 38 inch girth.

Fish Tale of the Catch:
Went out early and caught bait with the cast net before daylight then set up on a treetop in 25' of water on the incoming tide. Fished for approx .25 min. catching several 8-10 lb.fish. The corner rod loaded up and I could tell it was a nice fish so I picked it up and started working it toward the boat. A second rod started going down hard and I knew I had a problem because I was fishing all alone .That rod just kept on taking drag but I had my hands full . I finally got the first fish up to the boat and netted it. I grabbed a knife and cut the line right away and dumped the 32 lb. fish in the floor because I knew I would need the net for the other fish . I then started fighting a much bigger fish that could take drag at will. After about 15 mins. I got the fish up on the surface and netted her . I had 102 Lbs of fish in the bottom of the boat.I put the 70 lb. fish in the live well until I got someone to take pictures then released her to fight again. CPR - Catch,Photograph,Release!

Fish Tale of the Catch:
We started out that morning and it was cold. (22 deg) Bait was hard to find but after one shad ran into our gill net, we could start fishing while keeping the net out. We went to a good looing bank with a blowed down tree and put 4 rods out. It was not long till we had a double. We got those two in (15lb and 20lb) then went to check the gill net. Had 5 shad in it this time. Reset the net and went back to the same hole. This time one rod went down hard. I dove for the rod and got it out of the holder. I quickly found this fish had taken me into a tree. I set the rod back in the holder and after a min. or so the fish was pulling again. I picked up the rod up again and the fish was still in the tree. I set the rod back in the holder. Another min. or so went by and it was pulling again. I again picked the rod from the holder and this time I felt the line slipping around a limb but it was coming out. Finally this fish cleared the tree. It was in open water now. Water was around 12ft deep under the boat. We had no idea how big this fish was until SHE came up. We then knew this was a good fish. My partner slipped the net under HER and the rest is history. My Berkely 100lb digital scale read 60lb 5oz. After the photos back in the water SHE went. This was a short female with a big belly. Kind of reminds me of my wife. Don't tell her I said that....
